  A recent investigation by one of the Indian government agencies found that Manav Bharti University (MBU) in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh has allegedly sold as many as 36,000 degrees since it was founded in 2009, for prices ranging from 100,000 to 300,000 rupees (US$1,362-4,085). Of the 41,000 degrees issued by the university in that time, only 5,000 were found to be genuine. No Indian university can grant a degree without the regulator University Grants Commission’s (UGC) approval. Still, a large number of unauthorised universities are blatantly doling out certificates for years despite being on the watch list of the regulator. “Online classes aren’t real education: House panel,” reported Times of India, Mumbai edition dated 07 August, 2021. This was the conclusion made by the parliamentary standing committee on education. The committee said that disruption of physical school activities would likely to impair the cognitive capabilities of the students. The committee’s report observed that lack of digital facilities and adaptation either due to the inaccessibility of technology or the educational backgrounds of the parents to guide the students had contributed towards learning loss among students of all classes and regions.   ‘The Maharashtra state home department is likely to set aside the reinstatement of the police inspector Anand Bhoir following a Times of India Report,’ claimed the leading news paper of Mumbai on 15 July, 2021.   Since the onslaught of the pandemic, several doctors, nurses and front line health workers have done unthinkable humanitarian service and saved several million people, risking their own lives. The Indian Medical Association (IMA), a voluntary organization of medical professionals, on May 17, 2021 released a list of doctors who died in the line of duty, battling the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. In the first wave of pandemic in 2020, nearly 750 doctors had succumbed to the disaster. IMA also claimed that the second wave of Covid-19 has claimed the lives of almost 270 doctors. The list includes K K Agarwal, a 62 year old, former national president of the IMA, who died on May 17. MoS Health, Ashwini Choubey said in the Rajya Sabha that 162 doctors, 107 nurses and 44 ASHA workers died due to Covid in India till January, 2021.
